James "Weldon" Smith, 83, of McAlester, died on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, in McAlester.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by the Rev. Keith Stanford and Larry Case. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Larry Case, Matt Smith, Brent Case, Jon Vicars, Wade Miller and Rick Ramsey.
Weldon was born on Feb. 11, 1934, in Massey, to James Floyd and Opal Viola (Thompson) Smith. He attended school in Massey and graduated from Crowder High School.
He married Shirley Littrell on Aug. 15, 1953, in Crowder. Weldon worked for Carnation Milk Company for 10 years and worked at MEECO Marina for 20 years before retiring as a traffic manager.
He attended Life Church of McAlester.
Weldon enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Smith, of the home; son, Steve Smith and Linda Champion, of McAlester; daughter, Vickie Case and husband, Larry, of McAlester; grandchildren, Matthew Smith and Angela Creekmore, Lindsey Miller and husband, Wade, Stephanie Vicars and husband, Jon, and Brent Case and wife, Jordyn, all of McAlester; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Creekmore, Morgan Creekmore, Sadie Miller, Addison Vicars, Avery Vicars, Emma, Parker and Jacob Case; brother, Kenneth Smith and wife, Charlotte, of Kinta; nieces, Carol Greenlee and husband, Robert, of Morris, Heather Howell, of Kinta, and Amber Myers and husband, Jimmy, of Kinta, and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Opal Smith; a son, Roger Smith, and a sister, Dorothy Loftis.
