James Oren "Phil" Phillips, 79, of McAlester, died Monday, April 3, 2017, in McAlester.
James was born to Alva and Sadie Phillips on Feb. 20, 1938, in Blue. James graduated from Kiowa High School in 1957 and then moved to California. He worked as an industrial iron heat treater.
He enjoyed working on old cars, race cars, motorcycles, gardening, farming and raised goats and rabbits.
After returning to McAlester, he helped establish Phil's Drive-In restaurant (Burger Supreme).
He married Marsha Hobbs on March 9, 1971, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marsha; daughters, Nancy Linney, Karen Norriss and Jamie Phillips; sons, Scott Phillips and Jeff Phillips; grandchildren, Tanya Hendricks, Brandi Mathis, Rachel Moon, Barton Norris, Christian Preston, Khristian Fillmore, Marriah Phillips, Dalton Phillips and Wyatt Phillips; great-grandchildren, Trenton Bolding, Sheale Mathis and Kaedon Mathis, Weston Hendricks, Allison McGee, Tyler McGee and Zayne Fillmore; brother, Everett Phillips; sisters, Alvadean Young, Mary Boucherie and Patsy Phillips, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Sadie Phillips; brothers, Zay Phillips and Kimerson Phillips, and sisters, Aretha Reid and Bernice Holley.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bishop Chapel of Memories. Arrangements are entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory of McAlester.
