James "Art"'s Story
James "Art" Arthur Wilson, 96, of McAlester, passed away from this life on Jan. 15, 2017.
Art was born March 6, 1920, in Wardville, to A.B. Wilson and Viola (Featherston) Wilson. He graduated from Ashland High School with the Class of 1939.
He joined the United States Army in 1942 and served 32 months in the European Theater of Operations.
Following his military service, he attended the University of Oklahoma and received a bachelor of science degree.
He married Bonnie Vincent in 1958 in Tulsa. He worked as the retail manager for Firestone Tires in McAlester until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, he worked far into his 70s as a local real estate agent.
He was a faithful member of the Community of Christ Church and served as a minister.
Art served God, his country and his family and did it all well.
He is survived by three children, LaJeanna Fannin and husband, Tommy, of Atoka, Phyllis Hallman, of Sarasota, Florida, and Randy Hallman, of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, and sister, Gladys Doaks, of California.
Art was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Wilson, in 2010; his parents, A.B. and Viola Wilson; son, Jimmy Arthur Wilson; sister, Velma Greenfield, and brother, Irlan Wilson.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Chaney's Memorial Chapel with Ben Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Ashland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Wilson, Herman LeFlore, Cody LeFlore, Chris Brannon, Ty Brannon, Chaun Duncan and Jim Wilson Jr.
