Jack W. Watson Jack W. Watson, 92, of Checotah, died Friday Nov. 17, 2017, at Talihina Veterans Center.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, Nov. 22, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester.
Jack W. Watson was born on July 13, 1925, in Logan County, Oklahoma, near Guthrie to his parents, Jack R. and Lora Ellen (Neal) Watson.
In 1941 he entered military service in the United States Navy and served with the Seebees in the South Pacific during World War II. He was in the 133rd Naval Construction Battalion. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
After his service time he started rodeoing. In 1959, he married the former Bertha M. Sherman in Ruidoso, New Mexico, and she preceded him in death on April 26, 2017.
The couple lived in Checotah after they were married, then moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, for several years. After Las Vegas they moved to Talihina, where they operated a cattle ranch for a number of years. They moved to Checotah six years ago.
Jack and Bertha were huge fans of the National Finals Rodeo and had personally attended the event for over 50 consecutive years and were PRCA Gold Card members. Jack was a lifetime member of the PRCA Hall of Fame, and the World War II Pacific Combat Museum.
He is survived by personal friends, Kyle and Katie King, of Checotah, and Russell and Belva Barber, of Poteau.
