Horace Dean Sr., of McAlester, died Monday, April 24, 2017, at his home at the age of 83.
Horace was born on Aug. 31, 1933, in Gosport, Alabama, to Ledger and Georgianna (Williams) Dean.
Horace was a police officer in Mobile, Alabama and Lawton, and worked as an auto shop detailer until his retirement.
He is survived by eleven children, Shirley Dean, of Oklahoma City, Linda Faye Dean, of Lawton, Horace Eugene Dean, of Lawton, Michael Dean, of Hollywood, Florida, Horace Dean Jr., of McAlester, Ledger Dean, of Calvin, LaDonna Marx, of McAlester, Bobby Joe Harris, of McAlester, Kayla Sue Martinez and husband, David, of McAlester, Billy Harris, of Calvin, and Georgia James and husband, Bryant, of McAlester; numerous grandchildren including Mr. Dean's caretakers, Steven Jordan Harris, Juan Nieto Martinez, Amorianna Dean, Gina Dean, Zechariah James and Carace Kay Dean; sisters, Candis Womack, Lucy Pieckett, Willie Lockhart, Margaret Packer and Bettye Barnes, all of Mobile, Alabama; brothers, Jimmy Black, and Woodrow Dean and wife, Debbie, all of Monroeville, Alabama, and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vonna LeFebre; parents, Ledger and Georgianna Dean; daughter-in-law, Tanya Bernadette Harris; brothers, George Dean, of Lawton, and William Dean, of Atlanta, Georgia, and a sister, Mary Lue Calhoun, of Mobile, Alabama.
The family will greet friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, at Chaney's Memorial Chapel with Mr. Billy Harris officiating.
