Helena "Lena"'s Story
Helena "Lena" Honaker, 81, of McAlester, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017, in McAlester.
Rosary will be Sunday, March 12, at 6 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Chapel.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 13, at St. John's Catholic Church with Father Leonard Higgins officiating.
Helena "Lena" Honaker was born on April 19, 1935, in Derry, Northern Ireland, to James and Bridget (McClusky) McGeady. She grew there until she moved to California in 1965. That is where she met Martin Honaker and they moved to McAlester and got married on June 22, 1974, and they have made their home here ever since.
Lena worked in the cafeteria at McAlester Regional Hospital for several years.
Lena liked to read in her spare time and especially liked spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed working with the elderly.
Lena was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and was very generous with numerous Catholic charities.
Survivors include her husband, Martin Honaker, of the home; children, John Browne and wife, Christine, of McAlester, Andrena Browne, of Springfield, Oregon, and Noreen Hogan and husband, Bill, of Pleasant Hill, Oregon; grandchildren, Christopher Holman and Maria Davis, and their daughter, and Eleanora, Erin Holman and her daughter, Maeve; brothers and sisters, Liam McGeady, Jim McGeady, Kevin McGeady, Mary Norris, Sue Mason, Bernadette McGowen, Angela McGinly, Briege Doherty and Clara Yates,and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Pat McGeady.
