Gloria Wilkens, 72, of Broken Arrow, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, at Hillcrest South Hospital in Tulsa.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 25, at 1 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Chapel in McAlester, officiated by Jonathan Welch. Burial will follow at Arpelar Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
Pallbearers will be Levi Bryan, John Shaddox Jr., Michael Medders, Joseph Welch, James Welch, Jacob Welch, Cody Wilkens and Nathan Cook.
Gloria Wilkens was born on Nov. 15, 1945, in Talihina, to Mack and Eleanor "Tiny" (Palmer) Ott. She grew up in the Buffalo Valley area where she attended school. She had lived most of her adult life in the Tulsa/Sand Springs area, with the last 25 years in Broken Arrow.
Gloria worked as a child care worker at the old Hissom Memorial Center for children and adults with severe developmental disabilities. After it closed, she worked for a short time at the Radar Juvenile Detention Center.
Gloria is survived by her husband, John Wilkens, of the home; her children, Cathy Shaddox and husband, John Sr., Tammy Welch and husband, Frank, Anita Wilkens, Kelly Medders and wife, Melvina, and Tim Wilkins and wife, Jess; grandchildren, Lauren Bryan and husband, Levi Sr., John Shaddox Jr. and wife, Morgan, Jonathan Welch and wife, Lindsay, Jamie Bernhiesel and husband, Cory, Joseph Welch and Taylor Waits, James Welch, Jenna Rector, Jacob Welch, Jenna Welch, Cody Wilkens, Michael Medders, Jessica Medders, Jordan Shock and husband, Jack, Raven Wilkens and Timber Wilkens, and great-grandchildren, Levi Bryan Jr., John "Eddie" Shaddox III, Aubrey Welch, Jase Welch, Gage Welch, Ella Bernhiesel, Cora Bernhiesel, Jackson Welch and Emory Shock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Melvin Ott, and a grandson, Joshua Welch.
