Faye's Story

Faye Rene Newton entered this life on Jan. 21, 1940, in Pittsburg, born to Ben and Frieda (Christman) Sweetin. Faye passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, in Denison, Texas, at the age of 76 years.
Faye married Jan Newton in Ada, on Aug. 5, 1962. She worked as a nurse, as well as a truck driver. Faye and Jan moved to Bryan County in 2003.
She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, she loved them dearly.
She was a member of the 7th and Beech Church of Christ in Durant. She will be missed dearly by all of those who knew and loved her.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Ben (Rastas) and Frieda Sweetin; grandson, Chris Newton; sister, Mae Stiles; niece, Teresa Shields; brother-in-law, Harland Stiles, and sister-in-law, Euna Sweetin.
Faye is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jan W. Newton, of Durant; son, Johnny Newton and wife, Waleeta, of Elk City; daughter, Janet Newton, of Calera; sisters, Jane Nyre, of McAlester, Sena Shields, of McAlester, and Frieda McKinney and husband, Rick, of Coalgate; brothers, Bill Sweetin and wife, Alice, of Ada, Shirley Sweetin, of Pittsburg, and Jack Sweetin and wife, Patsy, of Pittsburg; four grandchildren, Monica Griffis, Amanda Newton, Christina Newton and Jeffery Newton; one great-grandchild, Hannah Rodriquez, and numerous family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, at Brown's Chapel in Durant with Van Newton and Jeff Hamblin officiating. Interment will follow in Pittsburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Shannon, Gary Wilson, Darrel Wilson, Benny Stiles, Willie Sutter and Larry Luman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Stiles and Jason Sweetin.
Family will receive friends on today, Dec. 30, at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.
