Edna Mae Cathey, 86, of Krebs, died Thursday, July 6, 2017, in McAlester.
The family will welcome friends at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 11, at 10 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Chapel with the Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick officiating, assisted by Bill Kirk. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Cathey's grandchildren will honor her by serving as pallbearers.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church Youth fund.
Edna Mae Cathey was born on May 16, 1931, in Lindsey, to Jess and Susie (Green) Thompson. She came to McAlester at a young age with her family and had lived in Pittsburg County ever since, including Bugtussle, Indianola, McAlester and finally Krebs.
She married William Clayborn Cathey on Dec. 24, 1948, in McAlester. Early on she worked at Seamprufe/Komar as a seamstress, a skill she used at home as well, quilting and crocheting.
Her favorite times, though, were spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Edna was a member of the Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church in McAlester.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Bill McCuller, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Mary and Daniel McGee, of McAlester, and a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Alice Cathey, of Krebs. Her grandchildren include Tammy Mosack and husband Russ, Billy McCuller and wife, Dana, Benji McCuller and wife, Miranda, Denise Hale and husband, Kyle, Brandy Wesley and husband, Tim, Merredith Newman and husband, Adam, and Dr. Myranda Golla and husband, Cody. Great-grandchildren are Devyn Connaughty and husband, Shane, Austin Mosack, Bailey and Lane McCuller, Macy, Jace and Tripp McCuller, Bryson and Cambree Hale, Chaseton, Gavin and Trenton Bolding and Trenton's wife, Amanda, Kale Wesley and Zoie and Zander Newman. Great-great-grandchildren are Wesley and Owen Connaughty. Also, one brother, Haskell Thompson, of White Oak, Texas, and four brothers-in-law, LeRoy Henley, Jack and June Cathey, Harold and Pearline Cathey, and Bill and Sherry Cathey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, William Clayborn Cathey; a granddaughter, Julie McGee, and four brothers and four sisters.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
