Edith Irene Miksell, 98, of McAlester, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017.
She was born to the late Harry and Clara Woods on Dec. 21, 1918, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Edith Woods married LeRoy Miksell on Oct. 20, 1936.
Edith was a devoted woman of God. She loved spending time with family and friends, cooking, playing cards and visiting. She also enjoyed traveling to many different places. She spent several years in management with Frougs in Sand Springs.
Edith loved to volunteer. She had been active in PTA, Rebekahs, Eastern Star and church to name a few. She attended Central Christian and First Christian of McAlester, where she lived for over 40 years. She never met a stranger and was loved by all that knew her.
Edith is survived by son, Randy Miksell; adopted son, Glen Scott; daughters-in-law, Sammye Miksell and Evelyn Miksell; granddaughters, Tracey Bell, Randi Campuzano, Amber Adams, Autumn Roberson, Mary Lamb and Jo Treannie, and great-grandchildren, Cristian, Colton, Damion, Zoe, Alaiyah, Melanie, Elizabeth, Jacob, Chase and Sophia. She also leaves behind many caring relatives and friends.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Clara Woods; brothers, Bob and Elmer; husband, Roy Miksell; son and daughter, Tommy and Shirley, whom died at birth; son, Dennis Miksell; daughter-in-law, Marianne Miksell; great-grandson, Caleb Adams, and many more.
Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester will have visitation on Friday, Sept. 1 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Generations Free Will Baptist Church in Joplin, Missouri, at 2 with procession to Stone Cemetery to follow. Services are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
Family requests donations to Alzheimer's research in lieu of flowers.
