Earnest John Browning, 81, of Eufaula died Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at his home. Earnest was born July 11, 1935, in Phoenix, AZ to Luther and Lena (Stewart) Browning. He graduated from Checotah High School with the Class of 1951. He joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1961. Earnest spent his working years on the Rail Road. He retired in 2004 as a foreman for the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railroad. Earnest married Loretta Johnston on July 2, 1994, in Eureka Springs, AR and they made Eufaula their home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eufaula. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Browning of the home; daughter, Valeta First and husband, Bernard of Choctaw; three grandchildren, Rachel First, Michael First and Daniel First and wife, Takako; great-grandchildren, Eli, Maika and Yuika; brother, Robert Browning of Oklahoma City; step-children, Anthony Bellamy and wife, Margaret, of Hobart, Jami Bellamy and Rusty Hensley of Oklahoma City, Keith Johnston and wife, Kim, of Castle Rock, CO and their families. Earnest was preceded in death by his parent, Luther and Lena Browning; and, siblings, Mildred Frederick, Lois Hargis, Elmer Browning and Ira Browning. The Funeral Service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Eufaula. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery of McAlester. Pallbearers will be: Bob King, Michael First, Rachel First, Rusty Hensley, Tony Bellamy and Keith Johnston.
