Dorothy E. Todd, 83, of McAlester, died Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Heritage Village Nursing Home in Holdenville, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Dorothy was born on November 1, 1934, in Krebs, to Allen Newton Southard and Annabelle (Rice) Southard. She attended nursing school in Nebraska and then met and fell in love with Carl Todd. They married on April 3, 1954, at her mother's home in Krebs.
Dorothy was a seamstress and worked at Elsings, Seamproof and Komar. She also worked at Davis Correctional Institution in Holdenville and also as a cook, bus driver and substitute teacher at Stuart Public Schools.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Carl Todd Sr., of the home; four children, Carl Todd Jr. and wife, Tanya, of Cash, Texas, Dottie Tubbs and husband, Tommy, of Alvarado, Texas, Carla Johnston and husband, Dale, of Holdenville, and Aaron Todd and wife, Marina, of Stuart; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence Southard and wife, Kitty, of Tulsa; sisters, Alice Day and husband, Lawrence, of Georgia, and Clara Garcia, of Hartshorne, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Kenneth, Doyle, Richard Southard, Grace Testa and Ruth Treat, plus five half-brothers and half-sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. February 10, at Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 620 East Delaware Avenue in McAlester. The family will hold a private burial of the cremains at the family plot at Blue Cemetery.
