Doris Jean Phillips Doris Jean Phillips, 75, of Kiowa, passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018, at a local nursing center.
Family will receive friends today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, at Brumley-Mills Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Brinkley officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery in McAlester.
Doris was born on November 9, 1942, in Eufaula, to Harold and Lillie Fern (Williams) Lewis. She married Zay Phillips on August 10, 1968, in Haywood.
She worked at many places over the years including Seamprufe, McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, and businesses she and her husband owned and operated, Phil's Supper Club, Ole Zay's Smokehouse and Tammy's One Stop. She went on to become an registered nurse and retired from McAlester Regional Health Center after 18 years.
After retiring, she cooked at the Brass Rose in Kiowa, she was well known for her pies.
She lived most of her life in Pittsburg County and enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports, cooking, sewing and crocheting.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Kiowa First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Wade Labor, of Kiowa; son and daughter-in-law, Zay and Staci Phillips, of McAlester; grandchildren, Madison Labor, Hayden Labor, Shaylee Dugger, Reese Dugger and Zay Phillips III; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Vicky Lewis, of Bedford, Indiana; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Ted Snider, of Cache, Carolyn and Charles Roberson, of Lane, and Karen and Jimmy Staggs, of Saginaw, Texas; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Lewis Lincks, of McAlester, and Ida Lewis McCabe, of Seminole; aunts, Mary Lewis and Dorothy Williams, both of McAlester; uncle, Raymond Williams, of Oklahoma City; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and special friends, Charles Gibbs, of Kiowa, and Jarie Daniel, of Kiowa.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Zay Phillips; parents, Harold and Lillie Lewis; infant daughter, Jeannie, and brothers, Glen Lewis and David Lewis.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Smith, Wade Daniel, Roy Lee Lambert, Rick Parrott, Randy McMath and Ron Nichols.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Gibbs, Donald Batts, Doyle Mitchell, Leon Labor, Bill Hensley, Joe Edwards, J.D. Lemons and Chester Johnson.
