Donald Dee Nichols, 83, of McAlester, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, in McAlester.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bishop Chapel of Memories. Inurnment will be at Kiowa Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike McGowan, James Steidley, Gary Garman, Buck Wilson, Jason Wilson, Kenny Beale, Gary Manos, Orlean Smith and Leo Osborne.
Donald was born to Sherman and Lemmie (Nobles) Nichols on June 4, 1934, in Pittsburg. He graduated from Pittsburg High School. He then attended Eastern Oklahoma State College and completed his formal education with a bachelors of arts degree in industrial arts from Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant.
Donald married Imogene James on Nov. 19, 1954, in Daisy.
He taught at Stuart High School and then worked as a loan officer at First National Bank in McAlester. He then became an insurance agent for Shelter Insurance, where he worked for almost 50 years.
Don started, owned and operated Nichols Marine for 45 years.
Don was active in the community and was a member of the McAlester Lions Club, SERTOMA Club and a member of the McAlester Elks Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Donald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Imogene, of the home; sons, Gary Nichols and wife, Annette, of Eufaula, and Randy Nichols and wife, Rebecca, of McAlester; grandson, Jordon Nichols, of Norman; granddaughters, Haley Yott and husband, Jason, of Fort Worth, Texas, Ashley Sewell and husband, Matthew, of McAlester, and Randilea Nichols, of Los Angeles, California; great-grandchildren, Hudson Yott, Rylee Sewell and Kassidy Sewell; brother, Sherman Nichols and wife, Doka, of Kiowa; sister-in-law, Georgie Nichols, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family member and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Lemmie Nichols, and six brothers.
Arrangements are entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.
