Debbi Rena [Holloway] Wells Splawn
Debbi Rena Splawn passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, July 9, 2017, at Beare Manor Nursing Home in Hartshorne, at the age of 47, after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born on Aug. 8, 1969, in McAlester, to Elsie Marie Holloway and W.A. Holloway. Debbi graduated from Albert Einstein High School in Kensington, Maryland, in 1987. Her family, including mom and her two brothers, moved to Maryland from 1981 to 1986 to live with her sister, returning later to McAlester after her mom passed away in January 1986.
It would take an entire newspaper column to describe the kind of person Debbi was. The very first thing you notice is THAT SMILE and she never ever met a stranger! Her incredibly large group of friends is a testament to the amazing influence she had on everyone.
Her first loves were her two children, Katlynn and AJ, followed by her two dogs (shelties) Corona and Buffett. Her children often kidded that she loved her doggies most.
Her 5-year old granddaughter, Kaisley, however, brought her the most joy! Kaisley loved taking selfies with her "Memaw" and they loved creating silly faces with Snapchat.
Certainly the one thing Debbi knew best was how to have a good time! There were trips to Jamaica, Cancun, Las Vegas and Memphis, but most of all she loved her many trips to snow ski at Purgatory in Durango, Colorado.
As a huge Jimmy Buffett fan, there were also annual trips to Frisco, Texas, to tailgate and attend his concerts. Notably, one year she and her daughter made over 900 Jello shooters to take and put them on ice in a kiddie wading pool!
Finally, her love for her Steelers football team was known far and wide! She owned everything imaginable with the Steelers logo, down to a Steelers tattoo on her right calf.
She was a partner in a successful business called Wells & Splawn Services, LLC, which provided security and cleaning services to regional oilfields. Most recently she was a registration clerk at the Choctaw Nation Clinic in McAlester, where she really enjoyed working. She is 1/32 Choctaw.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Marie (Beshear) Holloway, and her father, W.A. Holloway.
Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Ted Baker, of Delaware; her brother, Jimmy Holloway, of McAlester; her brother, Robert Burns Jr., of California; her sister and brother-in-law, Kori and Cade Carlson, of Mannford; her son, Aaron Joseph (AJ) Wells, of McAlester; her daughter and son-in-law, Katlynn and Kaleb Wagoner, and granddaughter, Kaisley Wagoner.
A formal viewing will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Service & Crematory in McAlester.
There will be graveside services on Thursday at 10 a.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe Breeden, Donnie Weddle, Bill Thompson, Mike Pearson, Robert Brewster, Jamie Futral and Colton Sepeda.
