Darrell's Story

Mr. McGill died on Monday, July 10, 2017.
Darrell was born on Sept. 24, 1938, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Constance Betty McGill Shelby and raised by the Rev. Charles Walter Shelby.
Darrell accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was a member and attended faithfully at the Be Bee Chapel CME Church where he served in many capacities.
Darrell received his education in Guthrie and Boley and at the Kiamichi Technical Center.
He worked at the Aldridge Hotel and for many years at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant.
He was an active and faithful servant to the community of McAlester.
He is survived by his sisters, Betty Shelby, of McAlester, and Donna Landrum, of Oklahoma City, and brother, Sam Shelby and wife, Gladys Shelby, of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
He was blessed with six nephews, Cletis Shelby, of McAlester, Clayton Wrice, of McAlester, Samuel Shelby, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, William Shelby, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Ralph Landrum, of Tulsa, and Terrance Shelby, of Oklahoma City; eight nieces, Chandra Shelby, of McAlester, Susan Shelby, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Angeline Shelby Landrum, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Tiera Hall, of Oklahoma City, Kallie Garrett, of Tulsa, Lyric Shelby, of Oklahoma City, Shanna Twyman, of McAlester, and Alva Jones, of Englewood, New Jersey, and, several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Darrell was preceded in death by his mother, Constance Betty McGill Shelby and the Rev. Charles Walter Shelby.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 13, at Chaney's Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Betty Shelby officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery.
