Cuma was born on March 7, 1931, to Andy and Versie Thomas Roberts, of Calvin. At 16, she moved to Tannehill with her family.
She was married to Clarence "Peck" Painter from 1949 to 1972 and they had four children. Phyllis, Randy, Ronald and Penny. Her number one priority had always been her children.
She worked at Komar & Sons for 30 years, retiring in 2001.
Cuma accepted Christ into her heart and was baptized in front of her four children in 2004. She loved being a member of the "AMEN" section at Peaceable Valley Church where she attended faithfully until she was no longer physically able.
In 1974 she became a "Mema" with the birth of her first granddaughter. She was known as "Mema" to everyone. Mema loved her little dogs, gardening, cooking, reading and her soap operas. Everyone knew not to call when her soaps were on - she'd "call you back". She was known for her wonderful cooking. Even when she was forced to use a walker, she was always trying new recipes. Her cooking was well known. Nobody could ever make chicken and dumplings, dressing, raisin pie, divinity and peanut rounders like Mema!
