Claribel A. Travis, 94, of McAlester, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at Indianola Cemetery with the Rev. J.T. Carnell officiating.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1922, in Durant, to T. Griff and Anna Baugh Aston. Claribel attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater where she received her degree in music performance, and then attended the University of Oklahoma where she got her masters in music performance.
She married Dale Travis on March 23, 1946, in Durant. She taught the first few years she was out of college. She then became the choir director at First United Methodist Church, a position she held for several years.
Claribel was a member of the women's group at her church and was a longtime member of the Fortnightly Music Club. She and her husband, Dale, spent a great deal of time traveling to places like Europe and South America to name a few.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Judy Travis, of Norman, and Dale Jr. and Marlene Travis, of McAlester; grandchildren and spouses, Adam and Beverly Travis, and Rachel and Adam Gilbert; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
