Burton C. "Burt" Barnhill, 71, of Hartshorne, died Thursday, Nov. 22, at the V.A. Hospital in Muskogee. The family will welcome friends at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, east of Hartshorne, with Rev. Clint Pope officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bill Morrow, Kent Deligens, Ralph Hall, Ron Hunt, Tyler Akins, Ronnie McGee, Steve Davis and Robbie Patton. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Lerblance, John Baldwin, Joey Barnhill, Richard Plancarte, Colton Drake, Eddie Mayo, Brandon Spears, Richard Bustamonte, Bill Haskins, John Bernardi and Bob Baldwin.
Burt Barnhill was born on Sept. 9, 1947 in Hartshorne to Richard and Iva Mae (Kline) Barnhill, and was raised by his grandparents, Joe and Georgia Bell Kline. He grew up in Hartshorne, graduated with the class of 1966, and has lived there all his life. He served in the U.S. Army in 1966 and 1967, where he was disabled and honorably discharged. He married Vicki Mae Skellenger on Nov. 13, 1974. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans. Burt was an avid turkey and deer hunter, and, on his last deer hunt, he killed the largest fall, black-powder buck of 2011, which also ranked number 6 in the nation that year. Burt was also Hartshorne's oldest "cruiser", stopping for his coffee breaks at the round table at 8:00 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m.
Burt is survived by his wife, Vicki Barnhill; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Todd Parker; a son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Andrea Barnhill; grandchildren, Christina Crow and husband Bryan, Chelsea Morrow and husband Dalton, Tyler Barnhill, and Maegan Barnhill; great grandchildren, Tyler Crow, Stetson Parker, Kole White, Legend Morrow and Lakelyn Morrow; brothers, sisters and in-laws, Don Barnhill and Mary Kimmery, Rick Barnhill and Kathy, Calvin Barnhill and Leta, Sharon Goldring and Jeff, Joel Barnhill and Kristi Clunn, Teresa Plancarte and Jesus, Terri Ashlock and Ben, and sister-in-law, Joanna Barnhill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Iva Mae Barnhill; his grandparents, Joe and Georgia Bell Kline and Bill and Goldie Barnhill; brothers, Bill Barnhill and Tony Barnhill; a sister-in-law, Kathy Stockton; and a great grandson, Kase Reed Morrow.
