Buron's Story

Buron W. Thomas Jr., 98, of McAlester, died Friday evening, March 17, 2017.
The family will greet friends at Bishop Funeral Home between 6 and 7 p.m. today.
His services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lakewood Christian Church. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Cliff House will officiate.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, John Burns, Bradley Thomas, Kevin Thomas, Justin Thomas, Andrew Hamilton & Anthony Salyers.
Buron was born on Jan. 20, 1919, in DeQueen, Arkansas, to Buron William Sr. and Violet Mae Phillip Thomas. He attended schools and graduated from McAlester High School in 1937. He then attended Eastern State College in Wilburton and Oklahoma City University for three years.
Buron then joined the United States Army Air Corps, served and was given an honorable discharge.
He married Kathryn Blackwell on June 5, 1944, in Tucson, Arizona. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 28 years and then retired.
Buron belonged to Lakewood Christian Church. He was a Mason and belonged to the American Legion for over 60 years.
Buron is survived by his wife, Kathryn Thomas, of the home; three children and spouses, Tom and Shelia Thomas, of McAlester, Lyn Salyers, of McAlester, and Bill and Joyce Thomas, of Shady Point; grandchildren and spouses, Bradley and Betty Thomas, Janet and John Burns, Jill and Denis Vogel, Kevin and Amy Thomas, Jennifer and Jason Barnes, Natalie and Andrew Hamilton, Anthony and Tamara Salyers, Justin and Chris Thomas and Heather and Charlie Burton; great-grandchildren, Taylor Kathryn and Jeremy Cash, Kaylie Hamilton, Emmalyn Hamilton, Caden Salyers, Treyton Salyers, Hunter Salyers, Heaven Thomas, Caitlyn Thomas, Addison Thomas, Jordan Loyd, Jayda Burton, Blaze Burton, Callie Ann Thomas, Kelsey Thomas, Brinley Thomas, Andrey Thomas, Meaghan Burns, Madilyn Burns, Ashlyn Langford, Gage Langford and Briar Langford and one great-great-grandchild, Jayden Andrew Cash.
Buron was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Violet Ambrose; one sister at birth, and a son-in-law, Bill Salyers.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Lakewood Christian Church Building Fund.
