Bobby Gene Tharpe Jr., 60, went to meet his Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at his home.
He was born to Bobby Tharpe Sr. and the late Ruby Diane (Warren) Tharpe on Nov. 23, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in Paris, Tennessee.
Bobby received a bachelor of business administration from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee.
He moved to McAlester in 1981 and married Mary Martin in 1982. Bobby began as an Insurance agent in McAlester area and later began his career at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in 1984 as a correctional officer and was currently working as a senior case manager.
He was a member of Mount Triumph Missionary Baptist Church. However, he began his Christian walk at Quinn Chapel AME Church in Paris, Tennessee.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 34 years, Mary Tharpe, of the home; son, Marcus Tharpe, of the home; daughters, Whitney Tharpe, of Bixby, and Alisha Tharpe-Baskerville, of Medina, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jherney, Warren, Izaiah, Savion and Caysen; great-granddaughter, Londyn; father, Bobby Tharpe Sr.; siblings, all of Chicago, Illinois; aunts, Nellie Warren Bass, of Paris, Tennessee, and Barbara Williams, of California; uncle, James Warren, of Champagne, Illinois, and other family and friends and special friends at Oklahoma State Penitentiary.
Bobby was preceded in death by his son, Maurice Tharpe; mother, Ruby (Warren) Tharpe; grandson, Shylan Bryson Tharpe; uncles, Robert Palmer and Samuel Warren, and grandparents, Sam and Nellie Warren.
The family will greet friends today, April 6, at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 7, at Mount Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Anthony Washington officiating. Interment will follow at North Town Cemetery in McAlester.
