Bill Carlton, 89, of Wilburton, died Wednesday evening, April 26, 2017, at his home.
The family will greet friends at Bishop Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Main & Oklahoma Church of Christ with Red Coleman officiating. Burial will be at Carlton Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Charles Riley, Nick Carlton, Dustin Sennett, Josh Long, Carlton Peterson and Joey Kuykendall.
Bill was born on May 28, 1927, in Stanford, Texas, to Omar and Charlott Kluck Carlton. He attended school in Denton County, Texas.
Bill joined the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Germany. He later was given an honorable discharge.
He married Mary L. Lester on April 4, 1952, in Denton, Texas. In 1959, they moved to Latimer County.
He was a longtime member of the Haileyville Church of Christ and was also a member of the Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ in McAlester.
Bill was a longtime rancher for many years. He was a member of the Adamson Water Board, the Latimer County Hospital Board, the Agricultural Conservation Board, Latimer County Excise Board and was a member of the Cattlemens Associtation.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Debby Carlton, of McAlester; four grandchildren, Shala Peterson and Clifton Kuykendall, of Hartshorne, Nick Carlton and Lacey Carlton, of Piggott, Arkansas, and Dustin Sennett, of McAlester; five great-grandchildren, Carlton Peterson, of Krebs, Maison Peterson and Murphy Peterson, of Hartshorne, and Kaytlen Sennett and Tyler Sennett, of Crowder; one great-great-grandchild, Noah Marks Peterson, of Krebs; one daughter-in-law, Vicki Carlton, of Piggott, Arkansas; caregivers, Carol Honeywell, Ova Morris and Aretha Pope; special friend, Nora Ann Ennis, and a special thank-you for the nurses and aides of Heartland Hospice.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Carlton; one son, John Carlton; a sister, Iva Lee Duncan, and four brothers, Jess Carlton, Travis Carlton, Willis Cartlton and Jo Carlton.
