Betty  Machunis


Betty Lou Machunis passed away peacefully on the 16th of July 2019, in Oklahoma City surrounded by her family. She was 88 years old.
Born on April 19, 1931, in Gowen, Betty was the middle child of Matt Sivil and Mary Genosick Sivil. Betty graduated from Hartshorne High School and attended college in El Reno, where she graduated and became an LPN.
Betty married Don Machunis in 1952, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. They lived in El Reno before retiring and moving to Hartshorne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Don, and her oldest sister, Mary Votaw.
Betty will forever be missed and lovingly remembered by her younger sister, Mattie Vaughn, of Warr Acres; her nephews, whom she adored, Dwight Vaughn, of Edmond, and DeWayne Vaughn and wife, Kimberly, of Edmond, and her loving niece, Vicki Hunt, of Oklahoma City. Betty also leaves behind four great-nephews, Derek Vaughn, Kevin Vaughn, Kaleb Vaughn and Quinton Nolan; a great-niece, Victoria Vaughn, and special friend, Patty Boyd.
The family would especially like to thank Roena O'Kelley, of Hartshorne, Tom Hunt and the staff at Bellevue Health and Rehab Center in Oklahoma City, for the loving care and attention Betty received from them. In addition, heartfelt appreciation goes to Soonercare Hospice in Oklahoma City, Heartland Hospice in McAlester and the staff and friends at Beare Manor in Hartshorne.
Open visitation will be on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, at Brumley Mills Chapel in Hartshorne. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne.
