Benjamin "Benjie"'s Story
Benjamin Harold Harris, of McAlester, Oklahoma, died Monday, September 25, 2017, in Tulsa at the age of 57. He was affectionately referred to as Benjie. Benjie was born August 27, 1960, to Earl Harris, Sr. and JoAnn (James) Harris in Talihina. Growing up in the Alderson area, Benjie attended Haileyville High School where he graduated with the Class of 1978. Benjie loved working at the Country Mart grocery store where he made many friends. He was an avid OU fan and enjoyed cook-outs with his family while dancing, listening to music and playing horseshoes. Benjie was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation.
He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Harris, of Krebs and Terri Murdaugh and husband, Rocky, of McAlester; nine grandchildren, Katelyn Beams, Christian Mathis, Sabastian Harris, Ray Mathis, Stevie Harris, Eden Hyden, Eli Harris, Ethan Hyden and Seven Hyden; brothers, Earl Harris, Jr. "Buster", of McAlester and David Harris and wife, Debbie, of Mississippi; sisters, Helen Wichert and husband, Greg, of Fairview and Tommye JoAnn Harris "Snookie", of Canadian and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends, including one special friend, Wanda Allen. Benjie was preceded in death by his parents, Earl, Sr. and JoAnn Harris and sister, Kathy Phillips. A special thank you to Luke and Yvonne.
The Funeral Service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2017, at Chaney's Memorial Chapel with Rev. Joe Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Bache Red Oak Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ken Hayworth, Luke Ligon, Brandon Brown, Travis Gwin, Lerrin Sipe, and Chris Short.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Christian Mathis, Sabastian Harris and Ray Mathis.
