Barbara's Story

Barbara Louise (Abels) Edge-Kerley, 78, of Kiowa, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at her residence.
Funeral services were Monday at Kings House officiated by the Rev. Mark Edge and the Rev. Linda Snider. Burial followed at Kiowa Cemetery
Barbara was born on April 13, 1939, to Lawrence and Maxine Abels, in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
Barbara obtained a master's degree of education. She began her teaching career at Savanna Public Schools, but spent most of her career as a special education teacher at Kiowa Public Schools where she retired in 2004.
She married Loyd Franklin "Junior" Edge on June 22, 1973, in Kiowa, and he preceded her in death.
Barbara married Charles Kerley on June 10, 2016, in McAlester.
Some of her favorite hobbies were treating herself to Goodwill, Cracker Barrel and QVC.
She was an active member of Praise Fellowship Church of Kiowa and The Kings House of McAlester. She was also very proud to be a part of her Thursday Ladies' Prayer Group.
Her nurturing and giving heart impacted many around her and was evident to all who knew her. When she spoke, it was clear that her heart beat for God and for her children. Her family and faith completed her. She was a pillar to many and had the heart to serve others.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Charles Kerley, of the home; son, Steve Reed and wife, Shelly; daughters, Mandy McMath and husband, Randy, Kathy Holeman and husband, Rex, and Holly Kennon and husband, Jeremy; grandchildren, Cambree Kennon, Aaron Boatright and wife, Lindsey, Sherri Davis and husband, Mark, Hunter Reed and wife, Kelsey, Maegan Mason and husband, Parker, Judah Reed, and Courtney Mitchell and husband, John; step-sons, Frank Edge III and wife, Anna, Wayne and Andrea Latty, and family, and Charles' children, Clint, Kim, Lerah and April; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a very special friend, Caroline McMath, and other family members and friends.
Pallbearers were Rex Holeman, Randy McMath, Jeremy Kennon, Aaron Boatright, Hunter Reed and John Mitchell.
Honorary pallbearers were Brad Church, Terry Johnson, Blake Jennings and Dennis McMath.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Maxine Abels; four sisters, and husband, Junior Edge.
Memorial contributions may be made to Praise Fellowship Building Fund.
