Arteen's Story

Arteen Henry, of McAlester, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at a local nursing home surrounded by her family, at the age of 87.
Arteen was born on March 24, 1930, to Robert and Fern Alexander, in Ashland, where she lived and attended school for 11 years. She finished her last year of high school in Ada following her marriage to I.D. Henry on July 16, 1947. Two boys were born to them, Stephen Henry and Timothy Henry.
The family moved from Ada back to Ashland then to Shamrock, then Drumright and lastly to Okmulgee. Arteen was mostly a homemaker. However, while living in Okmulgee, she worked seven years at the Okmulgee Day Care Center.
Following the death of her husband in 1989, she moved to McAlester. She enjoyed gardening, reading the Bible and attending Church.
Arteen is survived by her two sons, Stephen Henry and wife, Sharon, of League City, Texas, and Tim Henry, of Dallas, Texas; granddaughters, Teena Harlin and husband, Blake, of Durant, and Jeri Chandler and husband, Steve, of Arlington, Texas; sister, Aleen Wilson and husband, Frank, of McAlester; two great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, I.D. Henry; parents, Robert and Fern Alexander, and her daughter-in-law, Sherry Henry.
The family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at North Town Church of Christ in McAlester with Mr. Chris Wilson and Mr. Steve Weeks officiating. The committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Okmulgee Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Brewer, Oben Weeks, Jim Kelley, Greg Hubbard, Steve Brewer and Tim Murray.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Brewer, Mike Maffeo, Randy Walters, Bill Coop and Garner Boyd.
Arrangements entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.
