Amelia Barker, of Kiowa, died on Friday, April 28, 2017, at her home, at the age of 85.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 2, at Mount Calvary Cemetery in McAlester with Father Leonard Higgins officiating.
Amelia was born on April 21, 1931, in Pittsburg, to Pete and Jane (Galvin) Contrerez. She owned and operated the Beacon Motel in Kiowa for over 30 years.
She is survived by her children, Frank Ortiz, of Springfield, Missouri, Daniel Ortiz, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ron Ortiz, of Kiowa, Richard Ortiz, of Joliet, Illinois, and Linda, of McAlester; grandchildren, Lucille Rodriguez, of Oklahoma City, Sara Conterez, of McAlester, Steven Garcia, of McAlester, Rachel Ortiz, of Joliet, Illinois, Richard Ortiz Jr. of Joliet, Illinois, Amanda (Ortiz) Hernandez, of Joliet, Illinois, and Sara Amelia Ortiz and Maria Ann Ortiz, and great-grandchildren, Vincent, Heaven, Hannah, Tristan, Erica, Lilly, Cassie, Amanda and Maria. Brother, Jimmy Contrerez, of Georgia; sister, Betty Contrerez, of Pittsburg; niece, Cindy (Preciado) Shannon, of Pittsburg, and nephew, Jessie Contrerez and wife, Olga, of Fort Worth, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gloria and Ethyl; brothers, Jesse, Jack, Willie, Pete, Frank, Robert, Julian and Valentine, and a nephew, Edgar Bear Preciado.
