Alpha Jean Gibson, 90, of McAlester, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, in McAlester.
Family will receive friends today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 17, Northgate Baptist Church in McAlester with Pastor Roy Prince officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
Alpha Jean was born on March 17, 1927, in Checotah, to Oscar and Rena (Mathews) Dowdy. She married E.J. Gibson on December 7, 1946, in Eufaula.
She graduated from Canadian High School in 1945 where she was an All-State Basketball Player.
She was a homemaker and longtime member of Northgate Baptist Church where she was the pianist for 60 years.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Terri Gibson, of Dodd City, Texas, and Johnny and Gaye Gibson, of Alderson; grandchildren and spouses, Bree Gibson Vopelak and husband, Rob, of Trophy Club, Texas, Zackary Gibson and wife, Audrey, of Weatherford, Texas, Jeff Blain and wife, Chris, of Forney, Texas, Brandon Crouch and wife, Paige, of McAlester, and Casey Bridges and wife, Katie, of McAlester; great-grandchildren, Cooper Gibson, Maddox Giattini, Robert Vopelak, Addison Vopelak and John Stogner; sister-in-law, Joyce Ann Cariker; brother-in-law, Bill Gibson, and special friends, Susan and Jim Toburen, who she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.J. Gibson, in 1989; her parents, and a sister, Ruth Thompson.
Active pallbearers are Joe Stone, Brent Stone, Jim Bob Winslett, Robby Karr, Trey Karr and Mike Echelle.
Honorary pallbearers are Jim Toburen, Wayne Hodges, Robert Livingston and Jeff Parker.
